Holwerd… who does not know. Earlier on school trip to Ameland or a holiday celebrated on this beautiful island, you have taken the ferry from Holwerd to Ameland. And what is it like when you can celebrate your holiday in a Super great house in the most beautiful street of Holwerd, that you can spend a day… or maybe 2 days to Ameland, but that you are not tied to the island and that you can discover the head of Friesland.
But also in and around Holwerd itself is enough to experience. Holwerd is mainly known for the pier that was built in 1872. On the road to the pier there is a memorial in honor of the pilots who are crashed in the Second World War. In The village there is an old Salazar that used to be a court. In The cellars there is the prisoner where the thieves and the Tramps were trapped. This catch is still completely intact. Holwerd is part of the Wadden region. Rightfully chosen the most beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands. Walking along the marshes, enjoying the tranquillity, the beautiful scenery, the versatility of birds and especially the pure air. But also bike enthusiasts are well on their draw. Cycling route North East Friesland, Rietlandpark route, Wadden route and the eleven-way tour, they all run along Holwerd.
